About Our School
St. Malachy’s Girls’ School
Our school is under the care of the Dominican Order since its foundation in 1833, the first national school in Dundalk and hopefully still living up to its reputation as a very good school. Times have changed and as our most recent school photograph shows our pupils come from wide and varied social backgrounds and include children from many cultures and nationalities. We are now a school that welcomes pupils from other cultures and religious beliefs and we respect their traditions and values. An appreciation of and respect for the diversity that exists in society and the positive contributions of various cultures, religious and social groups are essential ingredients of our thinking here in St. Malachy’s Girls.
Our school ethos, which is based on a strong Catholic faith and belief enhanced by our Dominican Fathers and the wonderful support they have given to us over the years, strives to teach our children to love one another as God loves us. Our present School Chaplain Fr. Columba Toman O.P., like all those Dominicans who went before him, walks with us on our journey and under his guidance the Rosary has become a very important part of our lives here in St. Malachy’s Girls’ School.
We like to describe St. Malachy’s Girls’ School as a place of Faith and Learning. We will always strive to make St. Malachy’s Girls’ School a loving place where everyone feels safe, welcome and cared for. We live by the golden rule: “Always treat others as you would like them to treat you.” We strive to live out the message of Jesus “love one another as I have loved you”
We owe a great debt of gratitude to our parents who entrust their daughters to our care. As we send them forward we hope that we have not only fed their minds but also their souls. What’s behind us and what’s before us matter little. What lies within us-within the heart and soul, that is the secret. filling the mind without enlarging the heart is no education at all.
We greatly appreciate the support of our Board of Management and our Parent Association in all of our work.
